Resolution supports UND's fight for 'Sioux' name

The North Dakota Board of Higher Education passed a resolution to support the University of North Dakota's campaign to keep the "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo.

The resolution also urges UND to continue talking with tribes. But tribal members said discussions won't mean the tribes will accept the controversial name.

The NCAA placed UND on the list of schools with hostile and abusive Indian mascots. UND filed an appeal but lost at the staff level. An appeal to the NCAA executive committee is pending.
