Ney: 'Why would I hurt an Indian tribe?'

Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio), the lawmaker at the center of a federal bribery probe to which Michael Scanlon admitted, denies doing anything wrong.

Ney agreed to sponsor legislation to help the Tigua Tribe of Texas reopen its casino. According to Scanlon's plea, he accepted "things of value" -- including campaign contributions from the tribe -- in exchange for his actions.

But Ney says he was "duped" by Scanlon and Jack Abramoff. "You do something that is in good faith - how did I know what they were charging their clients? Why would I hurt anyone, especially an Indian tribe?" he told the Associated Press.
