Sen. Burns to launch Abramoff offensive in January
Thursday, December 8, 2005

Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Montana) says he will wait until the New Year to defend himself from charges that he is too close to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Burns has been linked repeatedly to Abramoff. He received more donations from Abramoff's tribal and other clients than any other member of the House or Senate.

Burns used his position as chairman of the Senate Interior Appropriations subcommittee to help a wealthy tribal client of Abramoff's, according to news reports. He denies any wrongdoing but the Montana Democratic Party has been making a big issue out of the scandal.
