Former Burns aide talks with Abramoff investigators

A former aide to Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Montana) has provided information to the Department of Justice as part of its probe into disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, The Billings Gazette reports.

Will Brooke, Burns' former chief of staff, said he voluntarily approached federal investigators. "I don't feel there was any wrongdoing here. I'm trying to give them anything and everything that is helpful in their course of investigating Abramoff," he was quoted as saying.

Brooke left Burns' office at the end of 2003 to work with Abramoff at the Greenberg Traurig firm. His clients included the Meskwaki Tribe of Iowa and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts, according to Senate records [Link].

Brooke has since returned to Montana to start his own firm.
