New director for White House Tribal College Initiative

The White House has named Deborah Cavett as the new executive director for the Initiative on Tribal Colleges and Universities.

Cavett was previously director of interagency initiatives at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where she serves as the contact for the White House Initiatives on Tribal Colleges and Universities and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. She member of the USDA's policy committee with the American Indian Higher Education Consortium and has been involved with tribal college programs since the inception of the Equity in Educational Land-Grant Status Act of 1994

In her new role, Cavett will work to ensure the nation's 35 tribal colleges and universities are supported and have full access to federal higher education programs. She will work with the President's Board of Advisors on Tribal Colleges and Universities, a board of tribal college leaders.
