Wednesday, January 25, 2006

Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Montana) debuted a television ad on Tuesday that seeks to distance himself from disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

In the ad, Burns calls Abramoff "the guy who ripped off his Indian clients for millions and lied to anybody and everybody." He denied being influenced into taking official actions to benefit Abramoff's tribal clients.

"I don't know who Abramoff influenced, but he never influenced me," Burns says.

Burns is said to be one of several lawmakers of interest to the Department of Justice. His former chief of staff confirmed that he has been contacted by federal investigators.
