Angry non-Natives confront police, Native protest
Tuesday, April 25, 2006

Tensions mounted in Caledonia, Ontario, last night after a group of about 500 non-Natives rushed to a protest site and confronted police and Native protesters.

Police had to hold back the mob at a blockade. At least two people were arrested, according to news reports.

The non-Natives became angry during a forum on the protest, now in its 57th day. According to CBC News, a crowd of 3,000 voiced frustration about the Natives who are occupying a construction site.

The protesters, from the Six Nations Reserve, say the land was taken illegally from them. The province has started talks in hopes of resolving the situation.
