Shakopee Tribe awards anti-domestic violence grant

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota has awarded a $500,000 grant to the Oglala Sioux Tribe to fund anti-domestic violence initiatives on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

The money will go to Cangleska, a non-profit organization on the reservation. It will be used to fund a new women's shelter.

Thanks to gaming revenues, the Shakopee Tribe has donated and awarded more than $56.5 million to tribes, Indian organizations and charities.
