Oneida Nation jumps into discount retail business

The Oneida Nation of New York will open a discount retail store in August.

The tribe was approached by Chittenango about opportunities in the city. The tribe agreed to get into the retail business after discussions with the mayor.

The Name Brand Deals store will be located in a shopping plaza the tribe bought in 2003 for $2.4 million. A tribal subsidiary pays property taxes and the business will pay local taxes.
