Rep. Pombo easily beats off GOP primary challenger
Wednesday, June 7, 2006

Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California), the powerful chairman of the House Resources Committee, easily won the Republican primary on Tuesday.

Early returns show Pombo with 62 percent of the vote compared to 32 percent for Pete McCloskey, a former Congressman who came out of retirement to challenge what he said was corruption in Washington.

Pombo is popular among tribes for his pro-sovereignty stance. He has accepted more than $500,000 from tribes.
