Rep. Ney blasts reporter for stories on Abramoff
Friday, June 9, 2006

Upset over negative media coverage to his ties to Jack Abramoff, Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio) sent two rambling e-mail messages from his Blackberry to a reporter, Copley News Service reports.

Ney accused Copley News Service reporter Paul Krawzak of bothering his family, rehashing old news and unfairly tying him to a former Bush administration official on trial. "Go for it – harass my wife and daughter a little bit more big man – maybe I will take out an add talking about your ethics," he wrote. Krawzak is 5 feet 7 inches.

Ney has been forced to relinquish his position as chairman of the House Administration Committee due to the Abramoff scandal. Among other actions, he tried to insert a rider into an elections reform bill that would have helped two Texas tribes reopen their casinos.

A former Ney staffer who worked with Abramoff has pleaded guilty and implicated his ex-boss in a wide range of tribal lobbying activities. The staffer testified at the trial of former administration official David Safavian.
