Cayuga tribes fail to seek rehearing on land claim

The Cayuga Nation of New York and the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma didn't ask the U.S. Supreme Court to reconsider their 64,000-acre land claim in New York.

The high court refused to hear the case May 15. The deadline to file a petition for a rehearing was June 9.

The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals three out the lawsuit last year. A divided 2-1 panel said the tribes waited too long to sue.

The state of New York is now seeking to dismiss the Oneida Nation claim on similar grounds. A motion is due July 28.
