Ralph Reed denies hiding from tribe's lawsuit

Ralph Reed, a conservative Republican and associate of convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, denies he was hiding from the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas.

The tribe named Reed as a defendant in a fraud and conspiracy lawsuit filed in early July. But it wasn't until this past Tuesday that he was finally served with papers.

A lawyer for the tribe said Reed and another defendant went "underground" since the filing of the lawsuit. Reed's lawyer, however, claims the former Christian Coalition leader hasn't gone anywhere.

The tribe is still trying to serve papers on Jon Van Horne, a former lobbyist. The lawsuit claims Team Abramoff conspired to close the tribe's casino.
