Ex-White House official granted delay in sentencing

A former Bush administration official was granted a delay in sentencing amid efforts by federal prosecutors to add more time to his prison term.
David Safavian, who worked at the White House Office of Management and Budget and the General Services Administration, was convicted of lying about his ties to Jack Abramoff.
The two kept in contact on matters affecting Abramoff's tribal clients.
Safavian faces a 15- to 21-month sentence for his crime. But prosecutors are seeking to add more time because they say he effectively lied on the stand when he denied the charges.
Safavian used to lobby for the National Indian Gaming Association and other gaming tribes before he went to work for the federal government.
