Tulalip Tribes creating new employment laws

The Tulalip Tribes of Washington began drafting new employment laws in a bid to strengthen sovereignty and hiring preferences.

The tribe has about 3,700 members. Tribal businesses have created nearly 2,000 jobs, about 41 percent of which are held by Indians.

The new Workforce Protection Act will strengthen tribal and Indian preference policies, an official said. They will also address labor union issues that have arisen in recent years among tribes.
