Lawyer paid $2.5M for Native abuse settlement

A lawyer was paid more than $2.5 million for his work in settling the Native residential school abuse lawsuit, CBC News reports.
Frank Iacobucci, a retired Supreme Court justice, negotiated the $1.9 billion between the government, churches and former students. His compensation was higher than the standard rate normally paid to lawyers, CBC News said.
Other lawyers are being promised millions of dollars for their services. One law firm, which spent 10 years on the case, is expected to be paid between $25 million and $40 million.
The settlement offers a lump sum of $10,000, plus $3,000 for each year spent in school, to all former residential school students. Additional money can be sought for those with documentable abuse claims.
