Shakopee Tribe donates $1M to Santee Sioux Tribe
Tuesday, January 23, 2007

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Community of Minnesota is donating $1 million the Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska.

The grant will be used for various purposes. The Santee Sioux Tribe plans to buy land, make business improvements, upgrade its medical clinic, fund youth programs, build a community swimming pool, support the buffalo herd, help the elders and provide heating for low-income families.

"You have been so generous with your support for the Santee Sioux Nation's attempt to build a new future for its children, to care for its elderly, and to reach for goals that just a few years ago would have been unreachable," Santee Sioux Chairman Roger Trudell told the Shakopee Tribe.
