Former Campbell staffer still under investigation
Wednesday, February 21, 2007

A former chief of staff to retired Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colorado) remains under investigation, nearly three years after allegations of corruption surfaced.

Ginnie Kontnik allegedly tried to steer a no-bid contract to a politically-connected firm in Colorado that was co-owned by one of Campbell’s top fundraisers. She is also accused of forcing a lower-level staffer to give her kickbacks.

Campbell resigned amid questions about his staff and their role in appropriations earmarks and other legislation. But figures in the Kontnik investigation say they don't know why it's taken so long to resolve the matter.
