NCAI in Washington this week for winter meeting

The National Congress of American Indians kicks off its annual winter meeting in Washington, D.C., today.
Tribal leaders will hear from Bush administration officials, state governors and several members of Congress.
The agenda includes Bureau of Indian Affairs nominee Carl Artman, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) and Sen. Jon Tester (D-Montana).
The leadership awards dinner takes place tonight. Rep. Tom Cole (R-Oklahoma), a member of the Chickasaw Nation; Wade Henderson, the president and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil
Rights; John Echohawk, a member of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma and the executive director of the Native American Rights Fund; and the National Conference of State Legislators are this year's honorees.
Other events that take place during the winter session, but not sponsored by NCAI, include the launch of
"Prez on the Rez" by INDN's List and an informational session on the NARF class action lawsuit over tribal trust funds.
