Ousted US Attorneys to testify before House panel
Friday, March 2, 2007

Four former U.S. Attorneys who were ousted by the Bush administration were issued subpoenas to testify before a House Judiciary subcommittee.

Democrats want to question former prosecutors from Arkansas, New Mexico, Seattle and San Diego. They were among seven U.S. Attorneys who were asked to leave despite positive performance reviews in all but one case.

David Iglesias, the former U.S. Attorney from New Mexico, alleges he was pressured by two members of Congress into bringing corruption charges prior to the November elections. He said he will name the lawmakers -- believed to be Sen. Pete Domenici (R) and Rep. Heather Wilson (R), who barely won her re-election -- if forced to testify.

Paul Charlton, the former U.S. Attorney for Arizona, was ousted for refusing to pursue death penalty charges against Navajo tribal members, according to news reports. He was overruled by political appointees in Washington, D.C.
