Della Warrior, a member of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe, will be inducted into the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame today.
In 1989, Warrior was the first woman elected to run her tribe. She went on to serve as president of the Institute of American Indian Arts, a tribal college in New Mexico, from 1997 to 2006.
“I’ve always emphasized a philosophy that students’ heritage, cultures, and artistic expressions were vital components to their educational success, which in turn ensures the survival of their Tribes and their unique values,” said Warrior.
The ceremony takes place at 4pm at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City. The Otoe-Missouria Tribe will host a reception for Warrior at the Oklahoma City Marriott, Salon D, 3233 Northwest Expressway, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
