Rep. Renzi said to be considering resignation
Friday, April 27, 2007

Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Arizona), the co-chairman of the Congressional Native American Caucus, might resign over his legal and political troubles.

Renzi is under investigation in as many as two cases. He has already resigned three panels, including the key House Natural Resources Committee.

Republicans and Democrats in Arizona are already circulating names of potential candidates who might replace Renzi. Former state Sen. Jack Jackson, a member of the Navajo Nation who is a Democrat, attempted a run at the seat a few years ago.

The Phoenix Business Journal mentioned Mary Kim Titla, a member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe and the founder of Native Youth Magazine, as a possible Democratic candidate.

The district includes parts of the Navajo Nation, the Hopi Reservation and some Apache reservations.
