EPA still reviewing Navajo Nation power plant

The Environmental Protection Agency has received more than 1,000 comments on the air permit for the Navajo Nation's proposed power plant in northwestern New Mexico.

The EPA has to review and respond to all of the comments before moving forward. An official from Region 9 said there is no timeline on the process.

The tribe wants to build a 1,500-megawatt power plant near Shiprock, New Mexico. Sithe Global is financing the $3 billion Desert Rock Power Plant.

Tribal members in the area, including landowners, oppose the project. They say it will harm the environment and cultural sites.
