Cherokee Freedmen protest ouster from tribe

Cherokee Freedmen descendants held a protest outside the federal building in Tulsa on Friday to protest their removal from the Cherokee Nation.
The Freedmen are in federal court to halt federal funding to the tribe. They are also in tribal court to stop an upcoming tribal election in which they will not be allowed to vote.
The Freedmen have already been told they are going to lose their tribal benefits. They say an 1866 treaty protects their right to be citizens of the tribe.
