Tribes left out of UND president search committee

The United Tribes Technical College is urging the state to appoint a tribal member to the search committee for a new president of the University of North Dakota.

UTTC President David Gipp says the state Board of Higher Education needs to ensure Indians have a voice in selecting a new president. The 16-member search committee was chosen late last month.

UND President Charles Kupchella is retiring in January. He has supported the school's fight to protect its "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo, which have been deemed hostile and offensive by the NCAA.

UND's case against the NCAA is pending in court.
