Griles denies hiding Abramoff ties from investigation

Attorneys for former Interior Department deputy secretary J. Steven Griles say he didn't conceal his ties to Jack Abramoff from the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.

Griles was interviewed by investigators for the committee and testified at a public hearing. During these appearances, the Department of Justice says he lied about his dealings with Abramoff, a convicted lobbyist.

But Griles' lawyers are telling Judge Ellen S. Huvelle that he didn't obstruct the Senate investigation. They want him to be sentenced to three months of home detention and community service.

Griles is due to be sentenced on June 26.
