North Dakota governor wants Indian for UND search

North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven (R) is supporting efforts to add a tribal member to the presidential search committee for the University of North Dakota.

Hoeven said he talked to State Board of Higher Education President John Paulsen about adding a tribal representative. Paulsen said he plans to do that next week.

United Tribes Technical College President David Gipp has been leading the effort to expand the search committee. Hoeven recommended that Gipp be consulted about a potential pick.

UND often touts its ties and commitment to Indian education as it defends the use of the "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo.
