UND spends more than $500K in 'Fighting Sioux' case

The University of North Dakota has spent $530,000 to defend its "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo in court.

UND is suing the NCAA over NCAA's Indian mascot policy. The NCAA says the "Sioux" nickname creates a hostile and abusive environment.

The policy does not require UND to eliminate the "Sioux" nickname. But the school is barred from hosting post-season tournaments and cannot display Indian imagery during playoff games.

UND is using a Utah law firm, Fabian and Clenendin, to fight the case.
