The Senate Indian Affairs Committee is holding a business meeting and hearing this morning.

Two items are on the agenda for the business meeting. They are: 1) Approval of a vice chairman for the committee; and 2) S.462, the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Reservation Water Rights Settlement.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) has been acting as vice chairman since the death of Sen. Craig Thomas (R-Wyoming) in June. [Agenda].

The hearing focuses on a discussion draft legislation to amend and reauthorize the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act [PDF]. The witness list follows:
