Hoopa Valley Tribe opposes river restoration bill
Tuesday, July 24, 2007

The Hoopa Valley Tribe of California is opposing legislation to restore the San Joaquin River.

Danny Jordan, the tribe's chief water negotiator, said the bill will reduce funds for the Trinity River restoration project. The tribe has treaty rights on the river and depends on fish in the river.

The House and Senate have held hearings on the bill. The House Natural Resources Committee could approve it as early as next week, the tribe said.
