Grand Traverse Band appoints new chief judge
Tuesday, September 18, 2007

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians has appointed a new tribal court chief judge.

Wilson D. Brott will be a full-time judge for the tribal court. He has currently been serving part-time as an associate judge for the tribe.

The position was offered to Joseph Martin, the chief judge of the Saginaw-Chippewa Tribe and a member of the Menominee Nation of Wisconsin. Martin is well-known in Indian legal circles but he turned down the job.

Brott is not enrolled in any tribe, The Leelanau Enterprise said.
