Comanche Nation tackles domestic violence

The Comanche Nation of Oklahoma is hosting a workshop to address domestic violence.

Native women suffer from the highest rates of domestic violence. Participants in the workshop said Native women fear speaking out and have few resources if they are victimized.

"It's really troublesome in Oklahoma, especially for women and children," Kelly Stoner, the director of the Native American Legal Resource Center at the University of Oklahoma College of Law, told KSWO-News.

Betty Simmons, the director of Comanche Nation Family Violence Protection Program, said there are only two shelters in Oklahoma that cater to Native women. She said programs need to address cultural issues facing Native women.
