Judge dismisses reservation voting lawsuit
Tuesday, November 6, 2007

A federal judge on Monday dismissed a lawsuit that alleged voter fraud and discrimination on the Crow Reservation in Montana.

The Citizen Equal Rights Alliance, a group that opposes treaty rights, tribal sovereignty and federal Indian policy, filed the suit. The complaint alleged that non-Indian voters were being hurt by the state's refusal to enforce state law at polling places on the reservation and that Crow tribal members were excluding non-Indian candidates from the ballot.

But U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull said CERA failed to make its case. He said there was no evidence that pointed to fraud or discrimination.
