Canadian man awaits word on Aquash extradition
Wednesday, December 5, 2007
Filed Under: First Nations | Law | National

A Native man from Canada is awaiting word on his extradition appeal to face charges for the murder of American Indian Movement activist Anna Mae Pictou Aquash.

John Graham has asked Canada's Supreme Court to take his case. If the court agrees, Graham will stay in Canada for at least another year, a government attorney said.

If the court says no, Graham could be extradited to the U.S. early next year. He is charged with murdering Aquash on the Pine Ridge Reservation in December 1975.

A second man, Arlo Looking Cloud, was found guilty of Aquash's murder. He is serving time in federal prison.
