Shakopee Tribe donates $233K for holiday season
Tuesday, December 18, 2007

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Community of Minnesota has awarded $233,446 to 44 charities, Indian organizations and fellow tribes.

Recipients will use the money to buy toys, clothing, food, and other gifts for families. "The holiday season can be hard for those who are less fortunate so we like to help out where we can. We've been blessed, and we're grateful for the opportunity to help others," Chairman Stanley Crooks said in a statement.

The donations include $10,400 for the Little Earth Community Partnership, an urban Indian organization in Minneapolis; $10,000 for the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe of South Dakota; $9,000 for the Upper Midwest American Indian Center in Minnesota; and $5,340 for the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe in South Dakota.

The Shakopee Tribe has made over $100 million in charitable donations to fellow tribes, Indian organizations, non-profits and local and state governments.
