Tuesday, January 22, 2008 Filed Under: Law The leader of a fake tribe in Utah has been ordered to stand trial on charges of attempted lewdness. Dale N. Stevens, 69, says he's the leader of the Wampanoag Nation, Tribe of Grayhead, Wolf Band. The group was formed in 2003 at an Arby's restaurant, The Deseret Morning News reported. Stevens is accused of victimizing a 13-year-old girl. He claims he was promised the girl in exchange for a half a cooler of energy bars, the paper said. "That's the way Indians do things ... if they're living under their old ways," Stevens said at his preliminary hearing, the paper reported. "I became her guardian, put it that way, I became her guardian." The group is not related to the legitimate Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head in Massachusetts.
