Hearing sought on Little Shell recognition bill
Thursday, February 14, 2008

Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Montana) is asking the House Natural Resources Committee to schedule a hearing on a bill to recognize the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe of Montana.

Rehberg says the tribe deserves federal recognition. The state of Montana and other tribes in the state support the Little Shell.

"It seems the only ones that don't know it are the bureaucrats at the Interior Department," Rehberg said [Press Release].

The tribe received a favorable preliminary determination from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in May 2000. A final decision hasn't been made.
