Cason to brief counties on Oneida land-into-trust
Friday, February 22, 2008

Associate deputy secretary Jim Cason will brief officials from two New York counties about the Oneida Nation's land-into-trust application.

The officials from Madison and Oneida counties are meeting with Cason today in Washington, D.C. They will learn about the final environmental impact statement the BIA is releasing.

Cason is making the final decision on the application because assistant secretary Carl Artman has recused himself. Artman is a member of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, which is part of the Oneida land claim in New York and whose leaders are seeking land in trust in New York.
