Churches apologize for role at residential schools

Churches in Canada are apologizing to Native people for their treatment at residential schools.
The Roman Catholic, United, Presbyterian and Anglican churches managed the schools on behalf of the governments. Some students suffered physical, sexual and mental abuse, and many were forcibly taken from their families and communities.
The government approved a $2 billion settlement for former students. As part of the process, the Assembly of First Nations and churches have been touring the country for the
Remembering the Children tour, which promotes the upcoming Truth and Reconciliation Commission on residential schools.
The final stop took place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Monday.
