Bill Clinton to campaign in Montana on Tuesday
Monday, March 31, 2008

Former president Bill Clinton will campaign in Montana on Tuesday for his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-New York).

Clinton's tour starts off in Havre, near the Rocky Boy's and Fort Belknap reservations. "My guess is that he somehow wants to hook up with the Native American vote," Craig Wilson, a pollster and political science professor at Montana State University-Billings, told The Missoulian.

When he was in office, Clinton visited the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and the Navajo Nation. He was the first president in decades to go to Indian Country.

“Indian people prospered more under his administration than any other,” said state Rep. Margarett Campbell, a Democrat.

After Havre, Clinton will make a stop in Great Falls, where the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe is based. He will end his visit in Butte.
