UND sorority put on probation for 'Indian' party
Tuesday, April 22, 2008

The University of North Dakota placed the Gamma Phi Beta sorority on a yearlong probation for hosting a party in which guests dresses as "Cowboys" and "Indians."

The school investigated the sorority after Indian students complained. Photos of the party, held last fall, depicted male and female students as "braves" and "maidens."

BJ Rainbow, the president of the UND Indian Association, said she was disappointed with the outcome of the investigation. “This is like ‘don’t do it again’ or ‘don’t do it again and get caught,’" Rainbow told The Grand Forks Herald.

The sorority could be suspended if it violates the school's code of conduct during the yearlong probation.
