Pine Ridge company builds on Tanka Bar's success
Monday, May 12, 2008

Native American Natural Foods, a company based on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, continues to see success with the unique Tanka Bar.

The bar, which is made of bison meat and cranberry, was launched last October in South Dakota. Demand prompted the company to expand distribution throughout the United States.

The bar is now distributed and sold at more than 1,100 locations. "The simplicity of the product -- that it's just buffalo and cranberry and all natural and tastes so great. It's like they were looking for it," company co-owner Mark Tilsen told the Associated Press.

Tilsen said the company will launch a new product this summer. Tanka Wild is a summer sausage made of buffalo, cranberry and wild rice.
