Former president Bill Clinton campaigned for his wife,
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-New York), on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota on Wednesday.
Clinton spoke to about 800 people for 25 minutes. He said his wife would respect tribal sovereignty, improve the Indian Health Service and get rid of the No Child Left Behind Act.
"It is disgraceful that there is no serious effort to reverse the explosive growth of diabetes among Native American people when they are young," Bill Clinton said, The Rapid City Journal reported.
Before he spoke, Clinton met with the tribal council, the paper said. President John Yellow Bird Steele has endorsed
Sen. Barack Obama.
