Store near Navajo Nation may have sold tomatoes
Thursday, June 5, 2008

A supermarket near the Navajo Nation may have sold tomatoes that have sickened 40 people in New Mexico, The Albuquerque Journal reports.

The Indian Health Service and the New Mexico Department of Health have investigated the cause of the salmonella poisoning. The state says some of the tomatoes may have been sold at the Bashas Supermarket in Crownpoint, a town near the reservation.

The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers to stay away from raw Roma tomatoes and round, red tomatoes. People in nine states have been affected.
