Still no decision on eagle feathers at graduation
Wednesday, June 11, 2008

An Indian student in North Carolina is weighing litigation in order to wear two eagle feathers to his high school graduation.

Corey Bird, 18, is Lumbee and Sisseton-Wahpeton. He was told he could be barred from graduation ceremonies on June 13 if he wears the feathers.

The Native American Rights Fund and the American Civil Liberties Union asked the Robeson County school board to allow Bird to wear the feathers. After meeting behind closed doors for three hours last night, the board still hadn't come to a decision.

The ACLU said it could file a lawsuit as early as this morning.
