Attorney in Abramoff probe a target of lawsuit

An attorney who helped the
Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana respond to the
Senate Indian Affairs Committee investigation of
Jack Abramoff is being sued by a rival law firm.
The
Provost and Umphrey firm of Texas used to represent the tribe. But after the scandal broke in 2004, the tribe hired Jimmy Faircloth, a Louisiana attorney.
In the lawsuit, Provost and Umphrey said Faircloth "maligned and falsely denigrated" the firm and interfered with the firm's contract with the tribe. Faircloth said the claims were frivolous.
Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, led the Senate investigation of Abramoff. Faircloth now works as chief legal aide to
Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), who is reportedly being considered as a running mate to McCain.
