House Resources hearing on Utah Navajo trust fund
Friday, June 13, 2008

The House Natural Resources Committee will hold an oversight hearing next Thursday, June 19, on the Utah Navajo Trust Fund.

Under an act of Congress from 1933, Utah manages oil and gas royalties for members of the Navajo Nation who live in San Juan County. Tribal members are concerned that they have been cheated out of millions of dollars.

A lawsuit in federal court seeks an accounting of the trust. A ruling from March limited the state's fiduciary role under the 1933 act.

The hearing next week takes place at 10am in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building. It will be broadcast online.
