Native people account for 69 percent of new HIV cases in Regina, Saskatchewan, according to data for 2007..
The
Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region said more and more Native people are testing positive for HIV. In 2003, Natives were 43 percent of new cases.
Overall, there were 39 new HIV cases in 2007, up from 12 new cases in 2004. The region is
encouraging people to get tested for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases and to engage in safe sex practices.
