Careless disposal of smoking materials caused a fire that killed three boys on the Pukatawagan Reserve in Manitoba, officials said.
Brothers Troi Castel-Lapansee, 3, and Robert Castel-Lapansee Jr., 4, and their cousin, Letrel Bighetty-Castel, 5, died in the March 10 fire. Their 57-year-old uncle, Simon Nicholas, died three weeks later.
Officials said all of the victims died of smoke inhalation. The boys were grandchildren of Mathias Colomb Chief Shirley Castelm.
