Obama meets Congressional Black Caucus
Friday, June 20, 2008

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Illinois), the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, addressed the Congressional Black Caucus on Thursday.

Obama is a member of the CBC. But he opposes the group's efforts to cut federal funds to the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma over the tribe's ouster of the Freedmen, who are the descendants of former slaves.

Rep. Diane Watson (D-California), a leading CBC member, is pushing the Cherokee legislation. She supported Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-New York) in the primary season.
